What should I wear?

Dress code for the welcome soirée is dressy casual or semiformal, and the dress code for the wedding is "black tie encouraged/optional"-- which means we encourage and welcome you to wear black tie attire, but that's not a requirement, and we are happy to have you in formal attire as well! We have an entire page dedicated to Attire for you to review and get the scoop in detail on what those dress codes mean. We have photo examples on that Attire page to help you visualize what you might want to wear. We have also listed some websites for great places to rent formal attire (The Black Tux, Friar Tux, Rent the Runway, Nuuly) at the bottom of the Attire page!

How do I get to the wedding?

You can walk to the Casino, or you can take the shuttle we are providing. The shuttle will run from 2:45pm-3:15pm and again from 10pm-11pm. Shuttle pick up takes place at Tour Plaza.

Will I be able to take photos during the ceremony?

No, the ceremony will be an "unplugged" / phone-free event. You can take all the photos you'd like in front of the casino, in the lobby, or in the theatre before the ceremony begins, but then you will need to put your phones away until after the recessional.

Will Tyler be changing his last name?

No, both Tyler and Kirsten will be keeping their respective last names. They will remain Kirsten Cannon and Tyler Roche. You can address any joint cards to “Kirsten & Tyler”!

Why Catalina Island?

In short, maternal ancestral heritage for both of us. Tyler's mom's side of the family went to the Two Harbors side of Catalina every summer, while Kirsten's mom's side of the family went to the Avalon side every summer. With that in mind, the otherworldly Santa Catalina Island feels like the perfect, fated destination for us to join our lives together, officially.

Why December 13?

The number 13 has always been significant in Kirsten's life: her father was born on September 13, her mother was born on May 13, her parents married on August 13, and Kirsten was born on January 13. Kirsten has wanted to get married on a 13 for as long as she can remember. Kirsten and Tyler wanted a winter wedding, so when they saw December 13 was a Saturday, they knew that had to be their wedding date! Of course, they are acutely aware that December 13 is Taylor Swift's birthday, but the choosing of this wedding date had nothing to do with her (though her music will certainly be featured throughout the events).

What will the weather be like on Catalina in December?

In summary, mild and cool: average temperature range is 50-60 degrees, but it could be as low as 46 or as high as 63-- and when there is wind, it feels colder! We recommend bringing a warm jacket of some kind for your travel over on the ferry and for exploring the island since the temperature will vary a bit and could have some breeze, and perhaps a rain jacket/windbreaker since there could be some spots of light rain during the day randomly. For the wedding, we recommend bringing or wearing a light layer of some kind (cardigan, wrap, shawl, etc). We will have a coat check if you’d like to bring something warmer and then check it during the events. The wedding events are indoors, with the cocktail hour being an indoor/covered outdoor setting, but if you’d like to enjoy the fresh air and beautiful water views of the 360 degree wraparound terrace during the reception, you may end up wanting to keep a light layer with you so you can wear it while out on the terrace.

Where and when is the welcome soirée?

Thursday, December 11, at Avalon Grille, from 5-9pm

When should I plan to arrive on the island?

We recommend taking the ferry to the island on Wednesday afternoon/evening or on Thursday morning, for a lower stress, more spacious travel experience and to ensure your attendance at the welcome soirée with ease. The winter ferry schedule is now posted so you can make all of your travel plans! The last ferries of the day on Thursday will leave sometime between 2pm-5pm, depending on which port you choose for departure, so you will need to be on one of those if you plan to attend the welcome soirée— which we really hope you do! If you plan to ferry to the island on the same day that you fly into CA, we highly recommend choosing a flight arrival of time between 12pm- 2pm, to ensure you can get on the last ferry of the day, which leaves between 2pm-5pm, depending on which ferry terminal you choose for departure.

Where and when is the wedding and reception?

Saturday, December 13, 2025 at 3:30pm at The Catalina Casino. The ceremony will be held in the Avalon Theatre, on the first floor of the building-- it's a grand entrance, you can't miss it! Please arrive between 3:00pm-3:15pm to get oriented to the space and to find your seats well before the start of the ceremony. After the ceremony, you will be guided upstairs to the ballroom's terrace for cocktail hour, and then into the ballroom for the reception.

Why are you having the welcome soirée on Thursday instead of Friday?

So that Kirsten, Tyler, and the wedding party have enough energy to get up and attend the wedding on Saturday! :) In an effort to take care of people's nervous systems and ensure that everyone feels rested and restored on the wedding day, the welcome party is on Thursday night, rather than Friday night. We invite you to please join in this more regulating experience with us: come to the island Thursday for the first party on Thursday night, have a leisurely day on Friday to take your time exploring Catalina and settling your system, and then feel more ready for the big day on Saturday and all of its energy, activity, and dancing!

There isn't an event on Friday, 12/12, so how should we spend that day?

However you want! Since this is a destination wedding, we want you to have a day to actually experience the magic isle of Catalina. We won't monopolize any of your time on this day, and we really encourage you to explore the island during the day and eat somewhere delicious for dinner!

Have you reserved a hotel room block?

Yes! We have a block of rooms as well as a discount code at the Hotel Atwater. Please see the Lodging page for more information on how to book there!

Is the wedding venue mobility-accessible?

Yes! The theatre is on the ground floor, the terrace and ballroom are on the top floor, and the bathrooms and coat check are on the middle floor. To transition between the levels of the Casino, there are wide, slightly inclined ramp walkways (rather than staircases) with windows offering gorgeous views as you make your way upstairs. There is also an old, vintage-style elevator (the casino was built in 1929, so it has some mild Hollywood Tower Hotel aesthetic aspects to it, lol) which will have an elevator attendant to escort you from floor to floor if the ramp walkways aren’t your speed.
